Encapsulation of biological material within the membranes receives a great deal of interest due to possibility of biotechnological and biomedical applications, such as replacement, repair, or supporting the function of diseased tissue. The subject of our interest is approach to immobilization within the membranes of the biologically active material in order to obtain biological processes regulatory systems. Among the techniques used by us macroencapsulation, microencapsulation and nanoencapsulation can be mentioned.
Our research encompass immunoisolation problems as well as construction of the systems for anti-cancer therapy. This involves the membrane systems fabrication, the development of methods of membranes modifications, membrane properties evaluation with particular regard to the biocompatibility using the standardized by us methods, and in vivo verification of produced systems. Recent research program concerned the problem of effective nanocoating of the biological material by nano- thin shell for immunoisolation including the artificial pancreas, also analysis of the influence of factors produced by microorganisms on eukaryotic cells.
Our present work cover construction of the systems for anticancer factor delivery purposes. Moreover, the membrane systems for controlled cell growth are developed.
The confocal microscopy, atomic force microscopy, spectroscopy, electron microscopy and flow cytometry are utilized in our research.
