Eight International Seminar

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF BIOCYBERNETICS
The ICB Seminars "Statistics and Clinical Practice" held in Warsaw since 1994, have become a tradition as a meeting place for statisticians from West and East, dealing with problems related to medicine. Both scientific and didactic goals form a part of the Conference framework. The Seminar provides an opportunity for professional discussions among biostatisticians, while medical doctors are offered an opportunity to discuss statistical problems with leading experts in the field.
The following topics will be addressed during the Seminar:
§ inclusion of genetic covariates in biostatistical models
§ analysis of genetic databases in clinical research
§ new models in survival analysis
§ exploratory analysis of clinical databases
§ ethics in clinical practice

GENERAL INFORMATION
Seminar format
The Seminar will include invited lectures by distinguished biostatisticians and informaticians from various countries. Beside these lecturers there will be enough time for contributed paper sessions. We especially invite young scientists to submit papers on original work. Part of the sessions will be didactic in character and will be addressed particularly to medical researchers.
The last Seminar was attended by about 80 participants.
Time and location
The Seminar will take place in Warsaw, Poland, 8-11 June 2011 in the buildings of the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the International Centre of Biocybernetics, located in the new research centre comprising several institutes and hospitals (Ochota Campus). Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering is conveniently located 10 min car drive from the airport and close to the central railway station.
Accommodation
Participants can be accommodated in Warsaw hotels (costs of accommodation are not covered by the organisers).
The Preliminary Programme will be distributed about May 31, 2011.
Contributions
The ICB publishes texts of lectures delivered at the Seminars in the Lecture Notes of the ICB Seminars and selected texts in extended form in the Journal Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering. The latter is the official journal of the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering and is indexed and abstracted in the Thomson Reuters products: Science Citation Index Expanded (SciSearch®), Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition and in Elsevier Bibliographic Databases: SCOPUS and EMBASE. The texts of lectures (1300–1500 words), preceded by a short abstract (up to 200 words), should be send to the ICB before May 1st .Template for the preparation of the papers for the ICB Seminar can be downloaded here: TEMPLATE
